Subject: Long Time Gone ...
Been 22 years since I was at this show and probably 15 since i listened to the Dead on anything but radio. My mind was blown to the end of the universe this night (wickedly evil black kitty kat;~) ), but I know it was one of the best of more than a dozen shows I went to. Tommy "Pookie Bear" Beaulieu-deepest dearest friend n daredevil (RIP) and I got right down to biz front and right of center. Talk about etheral musical high voltage flowing through you dance chainig with the ladies during "push", feeling elated and gutted at the same through "cold rain" coring out the twist to the snap and total kick of "women" Just crazy f'in good! Cranking this now through crappy little 'puter speakers has that "taste" flowing in my saliva, my muscles full of juiced up tension and memories flooding back with tears in my eyes. God how i miss these times and my buddy. Am forever glad to have pushed out of the brutal boring mold that mainstream 80s was and made the Dead a part of my life, even if it was only a short time. Thank you for hosting this--you've brought the soul of a dear friend back to me today...

Grate show. This show is incredible. One of the best I've ever heard and I have over a thousand of them. Perfect recording. I just realized I listened to this on Jerry's sixty seventh birthday. I just wish he'd have taken better care of himself. RIP fatman.

Subject: Great Jack Straw except...
I thought Weir brought them out of the solo a bit too early with his "Jack Straw..." They could have gone on a bit more. '88 was such a good year. Some great Dylan tunes from this tour.

Subject: Best of the Philly run, IMO
Overall: great recording. Very solid show - my favorite of the Philly run. Great song selections the whole way through, IMO.

The scene: ok, this was the night that people were slam dancing in the hallway!!! Does anyone else remember that?? During Women>Eyes, there was a friggin mosh pit in the hallway near one of the sets of speakers. It was mild by pit standards, but still, people were getting bumped into who did NOT appreciate it. It amused me more than bothered me, but some people were really freakin out about it. I couldn't blame them either - it's not like there's a whole lot of space around those speakers, so the pit forced the rest of us farther away from the speakers. Never saw that before or since, but it does make this show stand out in my memory!

The music: not sure why a couple of people have said the beginning is sluggish. I think the Jack and Althea are both good. Never Trust is sluggish by nature, but Jerry's solo is crisp and Brent is awesome as always. Also, Jerry's voice sounds better on this night than the previous few. Good Music to end the first set. Box, Cold Rain are a nice choice to start the second set and both are played well. Women R rocks well. Like someone else mentioned, Jerry makes a nice transition to Eyes, playing out some chords while everyone is still doing the "that's right" vocal part, and then allowing it to flow into Eyes. Phil perks up a little in Eyes, which sounds nice. The outro jam is really nice and has some great Phil moments as well. Post-space they jam on Other One for a good long time before going into the verses, with Phil again laying down some good chops. Healey gets dicey with Bobby's vocals in a fun way. This is a really good Other One. Nice Good Lovin too, complete with Bobby rap about sayin "how do you do?" to your neighbor.

Subject: only show I saw
I was stupid-- could have seen lots of shows, but took them for granted and didn't know how much the Dead would mean to me later on. At parties where I went to college, they always seemed to be on. There was no way to miss them. So I never imagined I would one day feel so bad about Jerry leaving us so young.

I was touched so deeply by that show that it hurts now.

Subject: The Sound
This is a good show, but as is noted by others, the sound is great. A big phat presence that really captures the live feeling (for me anyway). I give it five stars specifically because it captures a good show with a great mix.

Subject: Go Johnathan!
Feel the POWER. This recording is BIG. So hard to find a mix that really does the live experience justice. This comes pretty close. A MUST listen.

Subject: Best Healy Mix I've heard yet
This is way better than Hampton 88 or any other Healy in terms of sound. This one is my favorite board/aud mix ou there..it's silky smooth and can be turned up past three o'clock. Great show--the post space is what I go off on.
